Ajax

When it comes to names, the town of Ajax, Ontario certainly has one of the most notable in the country of Canada. The word means different things to different people; anything from a Greek hero who met his end during the Trojan War to an effective if outdated form of bathroom cleaner. It's much more likely that the town, which is situated between Pickering and Whitby, Ontario, real estate, is named for the former rather than the latter, although its actual origins are kind of obscure.

What is definitely not obscure about Ajax is its status as a town with a bright future. In fact, the future of Ajax, not to mention the recent past, is so bright that it may surprise many people that it still carries the official title of "town" (many provinces in Canada would certainly be calling a centre with almost 100,000 people a city!). If you're looking for real estate in the GTA, Ajax homes for sale might be a good place to start.

The labelling of the town of Ajax is, of course, at the discretion of the Ontario government, and in any case hardly affects the real matter at the heart of Ajax, Ontario: houses are popping up everywhere with the town's incredible growth over the last half century. Looking at the town now, most people are surprised to learn that Ajax only came into existence at the beginning of the 1940s, when the rurally based area was seen as an ideal location for a plant that manufactured weaponry for use in World War II.

This industrial base provided a good foundation for the slow but steady growth of Ajax over the next four decades. In fact, the nationwide recession of the early 1980s did not slow the growth of this area at all; the population continued to burgeon, with developments and services catering to the growing centre springing up constantly.

When looking for Ajax homes for sale, one thinks about the economic and population growth of the area. Ajax owes both of these to two main factors, the first being its proximity to the city of Toronto, Canada's busiest and most influential metropolis. Ajax provides great places to live at an affordable rate for people who work in the big city.

This is not to say that Ajax does not support an economy of its own; far from it. Ajax is part of an area known as the Golden Horseshoe, which currently holds a quarter of the country's population, as well as its transportation, economic and social industries. People working in every sector, from mortgages in Ontario specialists to labs making boiler water treatment chemicals can find work an easy commute from an Ajax home.

Finally, anyone looking for homes for sale in Ajax will be happy to know that Ajax enjoys an enviable position along the waters of Lake Ontario, meaning great recreation for the aquatic enthusiast. Ajax boasts the only undeveloped length of trail along the Great Lake, which is great for anyone who wants to go for a hike or participate in the town's annual half marathon.
