The name Aurora conjures up images of unsurpassed and unexplained beauty for anyone familiar with the Canadian skies. So, it can be expected that a town carrying this name will bring something special to the table, as far as real estate in Toronto, Canada, goes. The centre of Aurora, Ontario certainly meets this expectation.
The town itself has been in existence just north of Toronto for more than two centuries, although the name was not in place until the town was re-christened in the middle of the 1800s (it was originally known as Machell's Corners after the first person to set up a business in the area). Charles Doan, businessman and the first postmaster and reeve of the town was the person responsible for re-naming the centre, situated just north of Richmond Hill houses for sale and south of Newmarket.
Today, Aurora has a population just under 50,000 people, which makes it a pleasant size, with enough people to provide a solid economic basis. But still, what is it that makes this town really stand out? Let's take a quick look at some notable aspects of Aurora.
Oak Ridges Moraine. Probably the most important feature of Aurora is its location on the Oak Ridges Moraine in the province of Ontario. This is a highly sensitive and rare geological landform, covering about 1900 km2 in the south of the province. The many headwater streams that originate there and then flow into Lake Ontario and to the north define the area; the wet environment is an ideal habitat for a diverse range of wildlife. This area is well guarded by environmental protection laws.
Multicultural aspects. With a population of visible minorities that hovers around 7%, Aurora is one of the most diverse communities in the country. Those with a real estate license in Ontario can tell you that if you want the diversity of a Toronto townhouse, but a more country atmosphere, Aurora might be the place for you.
Celebrities. If you are one for dropping names, Aurora has a few native sons and daughters that help it hold the community head high. Included in the group are several notable NHL stars, including Wendel Clark and Tie Domi, the latter's notorious girlfriend Belinda Stronach, and several other famous NHL stars. The community also played host to 24 star Kiefer Sutherland during one of his many forays into school prior to his rise to fame.
Aurora enjoys a prime location in Canada's Golden Horseshoe, meaning economic and recreation activities abound. Proximity to Toronto and the many transportation routes of the area, as well as ready access to a quarter of Canada's population allows this town opportunities far beyond the average community of this size.
