Clarington

Located less than 50 miles east of the city of Toronto, just past Oshawa homes, is the municipality of Clarington, Ontario. Clarington is an original community in terms of makeup; in that has not historically been a town unto itself, growing naturally over time. Instead, the municipality is a conglomeration of several smaller communities that have come together for the greater economic and recreational benefits a collective municipality can offer.

This hallmark of Clarington's history is reflected in its name, which resulted from combining the names of the two communities in the municipality boundaries, Clarkeville and Darlington. The result is a municipality with both urban and rural areas and a total population of just under 80,000 residents enjoying the joys of small town living only a short drive from the conveniences available to those living in real estate in Toronto, Canada.

This population base, of course, means that Clarington can offer many of the opportunities, both economic and recreational, as a fair-sized city. As part of the Oshawa census metropolitan area, both government and business have their roots in the larger centre, which is quite close by. Several independent businesses including the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station form the backbone of the local economy.

The great majority of incomes in the Clarington area, however, come from earners who commute to Toronto or to western areas in the Durham region for their employment. As is the case with many communities lying close to Toronto and other major cities in Ontario, the communities of Clarington are largely known as bedroom communities, where workers in Toronto can find affordable living within driving range for work. However, as has been pointed out, there are many independent ways to make a living within the municipality itself, whether it's running a home business doing Chinese language services or training for your Canadian real estate license.

One sector that offers employment within the Clarington area is the recreation and tourism sector. The area includes several attractions that appeal to people of all ages and from all walks of life. One such attraction is the Jungle Cat World Zoological Park, located in Orono. Wildlife enthusiasts can find a large variety of large cats at this park, including the rarest large cat in the world, the Amur leopard. The park is a great complement to the zoo located near Bowmanville real estate, home to several of the most talented animals in the world.

Proximity to major urban centres, a vibrant local economy, and a variety of points of interest combine with affordable housing prices to make Clarington a popular place both to live and to visit.
