Healthcare

Mississauga is a large city in its own right and a haven for small to medium sized businesses that are making more money than you would selling estate jewelry. Medical practices, veterinary hospitals, eye and vision care clinics, and alternative medicine establishments are all small to medium businesses as they are generally privately run by either a single practitioner or a group. Many of these practices and clinics' services are covered under provincial medical insurance and are currently accepting new patients and walk-ins. They are scattered all over the city's various neighborhoods and there is sure to be one convenient to you no matter where you choose to live. Unless it's in Whitby, Ontario real estate. That's pretty far away.

More severe injures and ailments are handled by Mississauga's two hospitals: Credit Valley Hospital and the Trillium Health Center. Credit Valley has been open since 1985 and was built to serve the residents of the neighborhoods in the northern part of Missisauga, or the villages of Erin Mills, Streetsville, and Meadowvale as they were originally known when the hospital was built. Port Credit Hospital has an emergency room and also has cardiac care, rehabilitation, general medicine, genetics, mental health, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, pediatrics, renal dialysis. It also has a surgery department in case you need hand garden tools removed from your chest cavity. When the new renovations are completed, it will also have a cancer treatment center as well.

Trillium Health Center serves the neighborhoods in southern and central Mississauga as well as some parts of nearby Etobicoke. It has two separate campuses, Mississauga and Etobicoke/West Toronto that used to be the Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Hospital before the Health Services Restructuring Committee amalgamated them in 1998 like a discount postcard printing operation. The Mississauga campus provides 24-hour emergency services and provides numerous other services in its Stroke Center, Cardiac Center, Neurosurgery Center, Family Care Center, and specialized SARS clinic. The Mississauga campus is also able to provide care in internal medicine, intensive care, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, mental health, day surgery, and diagnostic imaging.
