Neighbourhoods

Ajax, as a bedroom community of Toronto, is primarily suburban and residential in character no matter which of its neighborhoods you look at. As any real estate broker worth their salt will tell you, there is very little industry or big business presence in Ajax. However, there are numerous malls and retail shopping parks as are popular in towns just outside of major cities where the land is less expensive.

Ajax's residential spaces are constantly growing to keep up with the influx of 4,000 to 5,000 new residents each year. Most newcomers are young professionals and many are immigrants, so new housing developments tend to focus on more single-family suburban homes than on apartments or condominiums, though there are a sizeable number of those springing up faster than Toronto waterfront condos. For anyone looking to buy a brand-new home, most of these new developments can be found in Northern Ajax.

Ajax is divided into four Wards. For the purposes of making your house plans we will list them here: The First encompasses the area from Kingston Road north to Fifth Concession and Westney Road west to the town of Pickering. The Second Ward includes the 401freeway north to Fifth Concession and Westney Road east to Lake Ridge Road. From Kingston Road South to Lake Ontatio and Harwood Avenue West to the town of Pickering is Ward number Three. Ward Four can be counted as the Highway 401 south to Lake Ontario and Harwood Avenue east to Lake Ridge Road.

Each of these wards can be further subdivided into neighborhoods according to the whims of commercial real estate lenders. These areas are nearly all suburban and residential, populated by families of various nationalities living in single-family detached houses. The only real distinction is that some neighborhoods and the homes in them are older than others. Generally the further north you go the newer you get. Neighborhoods also vary somewhat in price from smaller single-lot homes to the fancier developments with country club associations.
