Neighbourhoods

Clarington can be sub-divided into its component towns and villages rather than neighborhoods like Scarborough real estate would be. Generally speaking the towns and villages that make up the municipality of Clarington were originally founded as agricultural centers to grow the food required to support the nearby major industrial centers. Today, however, although farming does still exist to some extent, the entire municipality acts as a bedroom community for both the city of Oshawa to the west and the city of Toronto to the East. This transition was made possible by the rapid-transit system and extensive network of highways that serves the Greater Toronto Area.

There is no central town that bears the name of Clarington. If this is too confusing for you, maybe you should look for a house for sale in Mississauga, Ontario instead. The largest town in the municipality is Bowmanville. It is also the location of most of the municipal government buildings. The population of Bowmanville is currently around 30,000as a result of the boom periods in the 1970s and 1990s. That boom is still continuing to this day. The farmland that surrounds Bowmanville on three sides is rapidly being eaten up by real estate developers. As a result there are many brand new luxurious suburban neighborhoods on the outskirts of Bowmanville that would be perfect for raising a family away from the business of the major cities.

Courtice, Newcastle and Orono are the other three larger towns within the Clarington municipality. Courtice was a rural farming community until very recently when the new housing developments started going up. It remains popular among homebuyers because available housing is mostly single-family detached and the prices are relatively low compared to real estate in Georgetown, Ontario and other communities.

There are dozens of other rural communities included in the Clarington Municipality umbrella, most of which were or still are farming towns experiencing a housing development boom due to their accessibility from Toronto and Mississauga. Homes can be old or new in small villages like Crooked Creek, Haydon, and Starkville.
